Within this commentary, WEO’s CRC Screening Committee evaluates a remarkable health care transformation and the reasons for its success. In the last 20 years, screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) has undergone a paradigm shift after its prevention potential was recognized. It has progressed from parochial ad hoc opportunistic activities, led by clinical champions, to a structured, organized public health priority tailored to specific health care environments in population-based settings.

Indeed, 2018 marked the 20th anniversary of the WEO CRC Screening Committee, a global initiative focused on the science and practice of colorectal cancer screening and charged with promoting the international implementation of CRC screening programs.

The next WEO CRC Screening Committee meeting will be held at the ESGE Days in Prague at the Prague Congress Center on Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 8.30 am.
