“… an internationally renowned hospital, dedicated faculty, world class infrastructure, exclusive teaching and training for EUS and a group of lifetime friends.” The 2019 second iteration of the WEO International School of EUS (WISE) Program was a tremendous success.
The 2019 second WISE Program, with the participation of nine young specialists from Brazil, China (Hong Kong), India, Indonesia, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, United Kingdom, and Singapore, came to a successful conclusion.
WISE is a state-of-the-art EUS training program covering all aspects of EUS training through didactic lectures, hands-on training, close observation of real patient examinations, and individual case presentations. It aims to address the current gap in training for EUS and the need for structured training. WISE is organized in partnership with the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (KSGE), the Asian EUS Group (AEG), and Asia EUS Korea. The faculty comprises experts from the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, China, and other parts of Asia.
This is what Dr Sumit Bhatia, a WISE participant from India, has to say about the WISE course:
“I feel extremely privileged and fortunate to be a part of the WEO International School of EUS (WISE) 2019 program. WISE has given me the platform to perform and improve on my EUS skills and has provided me with the necessary confidence to handle complex EUS procedures.
WISE to me in a true sense has been akin to going back to school to learn EUS. We have had internationally renowned teachers for lectures, dedicated faculty to monitor our progress, state of the art animal labs and phantom models, and all this at an internationally renowned WEO centre of excellence, Asan Medical Centre, Seoul. The various academic assignments given to each one of us ensured that we get to discuss and address our individual problems during EUS and then practice it out at the hands-on sessions.
EUS is not the only thing that we gain from WISE, I got to make friends from across the globe to make a lasting network and friendship for a lifetime. The WISE program is what it is due to the vision and passion of its project founder, Professor Dong Wan Seo. He has been like a father figure for the school and to each one of his pupils, to ensure that every one of us gets to learn and improve. His dedication and passion to teach has been exemplary and has inspired us to do well in life. I am extremely proud to say now that I am Professor Seo’s student and trained under him.
An internationally renowned hospital, dedicated faculty, world class infrastructure, exclusive teaching and training for EUS and a group of lifetime friends ….this is what you get at WISE, I challenge anyone to beat that with any other program!!
To anyone considering an upgrade of EUS skills, you will be WISE to opt for it and extremely fortunate if you get to be a part of this prestigious program.”
Special thanks to WISE supporters: Olympus, Fujifilm, Sonoscape, Taewoong, and Cook Medical, as well as the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (KSGE), Asian EUS Group, Asian EUS Korea, and Asan Medical Centre, Seoul.
