Dr. Amit Maydeo performs a biliary sphincterotomy to gain access to the pancreatic duct
Endoscopic treatment for chronic pancreatitis.
The patient is a 20 year old female with chronic recurrent pancreatitis and a dilated pancreatic duct. Dr. Amit Maydeo, from Mumbai, performed a biliary sphincterotomy to gain access to the pancreatic duct. The procedure was performed in Sao Pãulo at the Center of Excellence under the direction of Dr. Paolo Sakai.
The markedly dilated proximal pancreatic duct has considerable tortuosity in the narrow segment near the ampulla. The duct was successfully cannulated and whitish stones were retrieved. A balloon sweep of the pancreatic duct was performed and a stent placed within the pancreatic duct over a wire guide. It is considered that the angulation and tortuosity was the etiology for the dilation.
This procedure was performed by Dr. Amit Maydeo from Mumbai at the Center of Excellence in Sao Pãulo under the direction of Dr. Paolo Sakai.
