The WEO Colorectal Cancer Screening Committee (CRC SC) held its annual meeting in the North American region. The event took place under the leadership of Professor Linda Rabeneck (Canada), WEO CRC SC Global Chair, and Professor Robert Schoen (USA), WEO CRC SC Regional Chair for the Americas, at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile hotel just preceding the DDW.

The CRC SC meeting began with morning breakout sessions, where six WEO CRC SC Expert Working Group (EWG) meetings were held in two parallel sessions. Each break out session was for a specific subject and included the Right-sided lesions and interval cancers, Colonoscopy screening trials, WEO Coalition to reduce inequities in CRC Screening, FIT for Screening, Surveillance after colorectal neoplasia and Image Enhanced Endoscopy (IEE) EWGs.

The afternoon plenary session, contained numerous presentations from leading experts. More than 195 participants from 27 countries attended the plenary session and Expert Working Group meetings!

The faculty included 28 international experts and covered a wide range of topics in three sessions of presentations on the long-term risk of colorectal cancer, FIT testing, and Risk groups/Evaluating risk. Each session was followed by an interactive discussion about the latest research and controversies in the field.

Overlooking the bustling Magnificent Mile, participants had the chance to network with their colleagues from all over the world during lunch and coffee breaks.

Participants consider the CRC SC meetings to be the world´s leading scientific meetings in the field. The attendees commented on the outstanding work of the Expert Working Groups, cutting-edge scientific presentations during the plenary session and appreciated the opportunity to network with leading individuals in the field. Overall, the WEO CRC SC meeting was the perfect start to an exciting DDW in Chicago.
