More than 220 people attended the meeting of the WEO Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Screening Committee held during the Argentinian Congress of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, GASTRO 2018 (27th to the 29th September, in Mar del Plata, Argentina).

The meeting was led by Professor Linda Rabeneck, Global Chair of the WEO CRC Screening Committee and Dr Asadur Tchekmedyian, President-Elect of the Interamerican Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SIED). The discussion focused on the incidence of colorectal cancer in Latin America and was enriched by in-depth insights from local experience in Uruguay and Argentina.

The second WEO High Quality Course on Upper GI Endoscopy was also held during the Argentinian Congress, under the direction of Dr Fabian Emura, WEO President-Elect. Experts Dr Cecilio Cerisoli and Jean-Marc Dumonceau were the invited tutors. Through an interactive learning approach, 102 attendees were able to systematically review basic upper endoscopy quality parameters to improve their daily practice.

Throughout the three days of the congress, the upcoming 2nd World Congress of GI Endoscopy in Rio de Janeiro, ENDO 2020, was flagged up to attendees. WEO Executive Committee members, and also the Sociedade Brasileira de Endoscopia Digestiva (SOBED) and SIED as co-host and collaborator, respectively, enthusiastically publicized this joint effort. ENDO 2020 will bring together most of the renowned international leaders in the field and facilitate discussions about innovative and traditional practices and concepts from specialists with very diverse perspectives. Participants at GASTRO 2018 were invited to prepare and submit abstracts for the congress beginning March 2019. More information about ENDO 2020 can be found at
