The scientific symposia of the Brazilian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SOBED) at ENDO 2020 will provide a platform for robust discussions on recent theoretical and practical advances in two areas: obesity and the biliary ducts.

These symposia, hosted by SOBED and with the participation of international experts from South America and Europe, will focus on leading research in the fields of obesity and of post-surgical biliary complications and on the impact of this research for healthcare professionals.

SOBED’s first symposium, “Prevention and treatment of post-surgical biliary complications,” will take place on March 10, 2019, 10.00-11.30 and will be chaired by Dr Flávio Hayato Ejima (Brazil). Endoscopy is the standard therapy for managing most post-transplant biliary strictures. This symposium offers a unique environment in which to discuss, with international endoscopic experts, the common general complications and better understanding and management of post-surgical complications.

The “Endoscopy and obesity” SOBED symposium will take place on March 10, 2019, 11.30-13.00. Obesity is an increasing health problem worldwide. Endoscopic therapies have emerged as treatment options in addition to lifestyle modification and bariatric surgery. The symposium, chaired by Dr Eduardo Guimarães Hourneaux de Moura (Brazil), will provide a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of endoscopy in the management of obesity and serve as a valuable resource for clinicians, surgeons, endoscopists, and researchers with an interest in the role of endoscopy in obesity care.
