As we rise to the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, WEO continues to fulfill its mission to be a world leader in endoscopic education while promoting high standards and quality in endoscopy. This is exemplified by the WEO International School of EUS (WISE), founded by its course director Professor Dong-Wan Seo from the renowned Asan Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea. Now in its third year, the WISE program is highly sought after by young endoscopists around the world and attracts numerous applicants annually.

As Professor Seo comments: ‘‘The WISE program is specially created to address the training gap in EUS globally and we hope to facilitate sharing of expertise and knowledge as well as provide a platform for young endoscopists to network with peers and experts.’’

The WISE 2020 Basic Anatomy Workshop adopted a different approach this year to ensure that learning continued despite the global challenges and travel restrictions. More than 80 enthusiastic participants took part in the three-session virtual conference where they learned from top experts on topics such as radial/linear EUS anatomy as well as on EUS-FNA and tissue acquisition. Insightful lectures, extensive discussion, and live demonstration by Dr Rajesh Puri from Medanta (The Medicity) in India were well-received by the participants. A series of tests were also incorporated as part of assessment.

Module One of WISE 2020 will continue to adopt a digital approach with further in-depth training on EUS from additional international experts. Look out for further information.
