Surgical Endoscopy
Philip Chiu (Hong Kong SAR)
The Surgical Endoscopy Committee focuses on topics and challenges related to surgical endoscopy.
The Committee’s mission:
Nowadays, ERCP (Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), ESD (endoscopic submucosal dissection) and POEM (per-oral endoscopic myotomy) are done as advanced therapeutic endoscopy procedures. Conditions that previously required surgery – most early stage cancers or achalasia, to name a few – can now be treated endoscopically. Surgical endoscopy is gradually expanding its field. This is definitely beneficial to patients, as these are minimally invasive treatments. The Committee aims to collaborate with gastroenterologists to advance surgical endoscopy and bring it to a higher level.
