To lead the promotion of high quality and safe endoscopy worldwide, through training, education and research.



Our objectives

  • To develop and implement quality education and training in digestive endoscopy
  • To stimulate endoscopic research, especially in the areas of colon and upper GI cancer
  • To increase access and knowledge of endoscopy in underserved areas of the world
  • To support international cooperation to achieve optimal practices in endoscopy
  • To partner with industry on research, education, access and innovation in endoscopy

Our history

WEO was established in 1962 during the World Congress of Gastroenterology in Munich, Germany, where it is based and registered as a non-profit organization. Until 2010, the society was known as “Organisation Mondiale d’Endoscopie Digestive” (OMED), when the name was changed to the “World Endoscopy Organization” (WEO).

For more than 50 years, WEO has been the voice of world endoscopy.
