Award, Ad hoc Committee

The “WEO Award” is a regular feature at ENDO congresses. The WEO Award Ad hoc Committee convenes in advance of the ENDO congresses to select awardees.

This Committee is chaired by the current WEO Past President, Fabian Emura (Colombia), and its members are representatives of WEO’s zones.

The Committee is responsible for:

  • selecting awardees of WEO Award
  • reviewing the selection process and criteria on a regular basis and suggesting updates as seen necessary

Award categories:

Master Endoscopist (as of 2020) – Criteria:

  • Leadership of (one or more) internationally renowned endoscopy units
  • Recognized expertise in one or more endoscopic techniques
  • International recognition within the field of GI endoscopy
  • Significant publications within the field

Lifetime Achievement (as of 2020) – Criteria:

  • Significant contribution to WEO´s activities and mission
  • International recognition within the field of GI endoscopy
  • Significant publications within the field

Research (as of 2022) – Criteria:

  • Outstanding endoscopic research mentor that has fostered the new generation of endoscopic investigators
  • Significant publications in GI endoscopy
  • Contribution to activities and to the mission of WEO

Mentorship (as of 2022) – Criteria:

  • Outstanding contribution to worldwide endoscopy education consisting but not limited to trainee education, publication of educational material or conduction of educational courses
  • Contribution to activities and to the mission of WEO
