As part of the Egyptian Digestive Disease Week (EDDW23), WEO successfully hosted the Advanced Diagnostic Endoscopy Course (ADEC) 2025 in Cairo. The course focused on improving diagnostic endoscopy skills, with a special emphasis on high-definition imaging and modern classification systems. Led by Dr. Jean-François Rey from France and Prof. Serag Zakaria from Egypt, the course brought together an international team of experts from Egypt, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
The event welcomed 130 in-person participants, including university faculty, gastroenterology trainees, public health physicians, and endoscopy nurses. ADEC Cairo also reached a wider international audience through livestreaming on the Endoscopy Atlas Group and a simultaneous broadcast on local medical education television.
“ADEC Cairo was very successful, with more than 100 participants competing through the voting system,” said Dr Jean-François Rey. “Perfect technical organization and positive feedback from participants. The education program was well completed.”
The course covered essential topics such as Barrett’s esophagus, image-enhanced endoscopy, early gastric cancer, and classifications such as the NICE and JNET systems. Sessions included case presentations, expert discussions, and live quiz rounds, all designed to keep the audience engaged and involved.
Prof. Serag Zakaria commented, “It was a very successful scientific course. The five presentations were great – descriptive and of a high technical standard. The quizzes went as perfectly as we had planned, and winners were declared.”
Feedback from participants highlighted the clarity of the program, the high standard of delivery, and the engaging format. The support of the WEO Library ensured smooth access to high quality educational materials throughout the event.
