CRC SC Awareness Month - A Call to Global Action

March 31 marks the end of the Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a sobering reminder that colorectal cancer (CRC) remains the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide, yet one of the most preventable cancers through quality screening and early detection.

The landscape has shifted dramatically. While screening has successfully reduced incidence in older populations, early-onset colorectal cancer has emerged as one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in men under 50.

At the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO), we are moving beyond awareness toward implementation. Our Colorectal Cancer Screening Committee continues to advance global standards, while our training programs expand across South America, Southeast Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa—regions where access to quality gastrointestinal endoscopy remains critical.

We stand united with regional and national societies in advocating for policy recognition and equitable access. Screening saves lives, but only when quality and timely follow-up care reach every patient who needs it.

Let us move forward with concrete action: organized programs, trained endoscopists, and an unwavering commitment to prevention.

Prevention saves lives. Our responsibility is to make it accessible to all.
