In a recent online joint ceremony, the Executives of the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) together with partnering South Africa societies – the Association of Surgeons of South Africa (ASSA), the South African Gastroenterology Society (SAGES), and the South African Society of Endoscopic Surgeons (SASES) – all agreed on the principal framework of the upcoming ENDO 2026 in Cape Town.
WEO President, Professor Lars Aabakken, states: “I am truly delighted that we have all agreed to move forward with this endeavor. The previous World Congresses were highly successful despite the COVID pandemic. I am delighted to work together with our African counterparts to ensure that we uphold the high standards of previous ENDO meetings, and we are hopeful that ENDO 2026 will be organized as well as the previous meetings. We also want to introduce an increased focus on democratization of GI endoscopy, and the needs of underserved areas, including sub-Saharan Africa. This way, we hope to foster improved patient care for all patients, and to capitalize on bringing together the diverse practices of GI endoscopy across the world.”
Echoing the sentiments of Professor Aabakken, Professor Ernst Fredericks, President of the South African Gastroenterology Society says, “the South African Gastroenterology Society, SAGES, is thrilled to welcome the prestigious ENDO World Congress to South Africa in September 2026. This is a landmark event and provides an unparalleled opportunity to showcase South Africa as a hub for medical excellence and innovation. The Congress will not only highlight the latest advancements in endoscopy but also foster collaboration among global leaders and practitioners in the field. For the three South African societies, the Association of Surgeons of South Africa (ASSA), the South African Gastroenterology Society (SAGES), and the South African Society of Endoscopic Surgeons (SASES), it signifies a moment to elevate the profile of endoscopic surgery, gastroenterology, and surgical care in South Africa and beyond.
Hosting ENDO 2026 will bring immense benefits to our medical communities, offering a platform for knowledge exchange, professional development, and the introduction of cutting-edge techniques that will directly enhance patient care. Together, we are proud to support this momentous event and are excited about the inspiration and opportunities it will bring to the African continent.”
ENDO 2026 will be held in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa, from September 24 to 26, 2026. It will include live demonstrations, comprehensive hands-on training sessions, keynote speaker lectures, scientific symposia, a learning center, top-notch local and international faculty, and much more.
