The High-Quality Endoscopy (High-Q) Course took place on August 27, 2025, in Lima, Peru, during Semana Panamericana de Enfermedades Digestivas (SPED) 2025. Organized by the World Endoscopy Organization, the course focused on improving basic skills in upper GI endoscopy.

More than 80 participants attended. Doctors and healthcare professionals came together for one goal: to improve early detection of digestive diseases through better endoscopy practices.

Led by Dr Fabián Emura (Colombia), the course brought together a strong international faculty including Drs.:

  • Tomohiko Moriyama (Japan)
  • Amitabh Chak (USA)
  • William Otero (Colombia)
  • Harold Benites (Peru), and
  • Arnoldo Riquelme (Chile).

The program covered important and practical topics, including:

  • Principles of early cancer diagnosis
  • Quality metrics in esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
  • Barrett’s esophagus quality metrics
  • Impact of systematic upper GI endoscopy in clinical practice
  • Mucosal cleaning solution in practice
  • Chronic gastritis, Helicobacter pylori and OLGA/OLGIM (operative link for gastritis assessment/operative link on gastric intestinal metaplasia) and the Sidney protocol.

The learning environment was hands-on, focused, and highly interactive. Speakers shared techniques that work in real-world settings, especially in places where early detection can make the biggest difference.

This event was made possible thanks to the support of Olympus.
