WEO in collaboration with SOBED, SIED, and the Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo, successfully conducted its second Year-2024 South American outreach activity in São Paulo, Brazil, on June 26–29. The course was organized by WEO Co-Chair for South America, Dr. Eduardo de Moura, with participating international faculty from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay, Japan, and the USA.

To enable personal one-to-one training, only 24 GI fellows were selected through competitive application. Initially the trainees attended the 33rd São Paulo Therapeutic Endoscopy course where, besides lectures from local and international faculty, around 50 live endoscopy procedures were performed locally and around the world. The trainees then practiced on simulators carrying out therapeutic procedures such as dilations, stent placements, polypectomies, G-tube placements, and clipping and closing defects. They also were given hands-on training involving these therapeutic interventions. Several interactive sessions were held where invited faculty presented the difficult cases they had encountered in their practice.

The feedback on the course from the attendees was highly positive. WEO plans to closely follow up the progress of the trainees over the next year.
